The Home Counties can be a lovely ride, with leafy winding roads, pretty villages and stopping-off points.  The towns and villages along the route of the Thames to the west of London are particularly worth a mention.

• Windsor is a very attractive town, with a cobbled square where you can park the scooter and sit outside a pub for lunch. When we went, they had a civil war re-enactment which was good, free street theatre.
• Very pretty roads lead to Royal Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge, en-route to the Big 7 scooter rally at Paddock Wood.
• Greater London is predictably busy, but riding through the centre of London after 8pm is better than you might expect.  The A24 south through Leatherhead and Dorking in Surrey is a single carriageway, and very attractive road for touring.
